Choosing High School Courses: My Grade 10 Journey to Grade 11

Hi everyone! It’s Ajibola Agbaje here, and I wanted to share my thoughts on something all high school students face—course selection. As a grade 10 student preparing to move into grade 11 next year, I’ve been thinking a lot about what courses I should take and how they’ll shape my future.

Choosing the right courses is like building the foundation for your future. Whether you already know what you want to do or are still figuring things out, the subjects you pick now can open doors later. For me, it’s about finding a balance between what I love (like web design and math) and what I’ll need for my goals (like courses related to mechanical engineering).

Next year, I’m planning to take courses that match my interests and help me prepare for university or college. Math and science are definitely on my list because they’re important for engineering, and I’m also considering taking a tech course to sharpen my web design skills.

It’s exciting to explore electives, too. High school is a great time to try new things and discover what you’re passionate about. If you’re in the same grade as me, think about picking courses that challenge you and keep you curious.

If you’re also deciding your courses, here are a few things I’ve learned:

  1. Know Your Goals: Think about what you enjoy and where you see yourself in the future.
  2. Talk to Your Guidance Counselor: They can help you figure out which courses you need for your career path.
  3. Try Something New: Don’t be afraid to take an elective that sounds fun or different—it might surprise you!
  4. Keep Your Options Open: If you’re unsure about your future plans, choose courses that give you flexibility later on.

I’d love to hear from you! Are you also thinking about course selection for next year? What’s your dream career, and how are you planning to get there?

Let’s share our journeys and help each other out. High school is all about growth, and together, we’ve got this!
